A creamy fruit smoothie absolutely packed with antioxidants!
Smoothie time! This creamy, nutritious strawberry matcha chia smoothie recipe is perfect for breakfast, a post-workout snack, or even dessert. It includes one serving of fruit, and calls for chia seeds and matcha green tea powder, both of which contain lots of antioxidants and amazing-for-you nutrients.
The chia seeds are packed full of protein, fiber, amino acids, calcium, omega 3, minerals, and antioxidants. Actually, chia seeds are higher in antioxidant activity than any other whole food—including blueberries!
Chia seeds also have a subtle nutty flavor that’s very mild, so adding them into smoothies is great, but won’t drastically change the flavor.
Speaking of antioxidants, the matcha tea powder in this recipe has tons of them, too. In fact, matcha powder contains 1,384 ORAC units of antioxidants. That’s more than almost any other food on the planet.
And why are antioxidants so exciting? Because they stop free radicals in their tracks.
Free radicals really are out to kill us. They’re destructive to our cells, and help form cancer cells. Free radicals also attack healthy cells and cause them to start attacking other cells themselves. It’s vicious. And once these free radicals attack healthy cells, that’s when all kinds of health problems can start—including heart disease, diabetes, tissue and muscle degeneration, and lots more.
That’s why antioxidants are so important, and why consuming foods that have plenty of antioxidants is smart. So this strawberry matcha chia smoothie recipe is just the thing! The powerhouse antioxidant combo of chia seeds and matcha powder can’t be beat.
Bonus: matcha powder also contains catechins, which help you burn calories much faster than normal, as well as igniting your metabolism. That’s one of the main reasons that this smoothie is perfect post-workout.
So try this superfood treat soon! You’ll be glad you did.
