How to Make Matcha Crème Brûlée
AN ASIAN TWIST ON A FRENCH TRADITION.
Crème brûlée is a traditional French dessert that is also known as burnt cream or crema catalana. Normally crème brûlée consists of a rich vanilla custard that is topped with a layer of hard caramel to create an inviting and warming sensation, but nowadays there are many different kinds of crème brûlée. Our Matcha Crème Brûlée takes inspiration from Asian culture, making a flavorful combination that is as unique as it is delicious. In addition to the exotic taste of matcha, our Matcha Crème Brûlée is absolutely breathtaking to look at.

Matcha Crème Brûlée Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 egg yolk, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon cognac
- 1 teaspoon Epic Matcha green tea powder
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- Pinch of salt
(To make more, simply double our ingredients list.)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of sugar until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is frothy.
- Add heavy cream, Epic Matcha green tea powder, grated ginger and salt into a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Stir lightly to prevent clumping.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in cognac and allow to cool.
- Slowly whisk heavy cream mixture into the eggs, mixing thoroughly.
- Pour into a ramekin.
- Place onto a baking dish and bake for about 25–30 minutes or until set. Test with a toothpick to judge thickness.
- Allow to cool. Refrigerate for 2–3 hours.
- Allow to sit out for 15 minutes, or just below room temperature.
- Add remaining sugar on top of Crème Brûlée and use a torch to brown the sugar.
