A heart-healthy superfood smoothie to keep your body in top shape.
One thing we can thank the hotter months for is an excuse to make more smoothies—and this happy heart matcha smoothie is fabulous!
The stars here are the almond butter, coconut milk, and of course, the matcha green tea powder. Matcha gives this smoothie a beautiful green color and adds an earthy, subtle sweetness.
Almond butter is a great source of protein, which is essential for tissue repair. (This is why it’s important to eat protein if you work out a lot.) The almonds in almond butter provide a one-two punch of heart health, both preventing the development of heart disease and providing a high dose of fiber, which encourages heart health.
The coconut milk has its own set of health benefits, which include improving heart health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol; preventing joint inflammation and ulcers; building muscle; improving digestion; burning fat, and providing electrolytes. Coconut milk is also filling and delicious, as well as rich in antioxidants.
Speaking of antioxidants—hello, matcha powder! Matcha contains 1,384 ORAC units of antioxidants—more than nearly any other food on the planet. This is exciting because antioxidants help fight against so many things that are bad for you. Want your skin to be protected from premature aging due to UV light? Antioxidants to the rescue! Want an immunity boost? Thank you, antioxidants! Want your body to have help preventing health problems like heart disease, Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration, and cancer? Antioxidants all the way.
That’s not all. Matcha tea powder is also a huge detoxifier, an anti-inflammatory, lowers cholesterol, and makes a great source of fiber.
Matcha tea also helps your energy rise and maintain throughout the day, and increases your memory, concentration, and focus, without making you feel jittery or edgy. Just the opposite, in fact: because of matcha’s L-theanine, you’ll feel relaxed, calm, and de-stressed.
So let’s get that blender humming for a happy heart matcha smoothie, right?
