Healthy Starbucks Franken Frappuccino Drink (Copycat Recipe)

Copycat starbucks frappuccino recipe

Disregard the Chestnut Praline Latte and the Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Starbucks has announced a “secret menu drink” – without a moment to spare for Halloween.

And you can make it at home with your own bag of Epic Matcha green tea powder.

The Franken Frappuccino is basically a Green Tea Frappuccino, with the exception that it has white mocha flavor, peppermint, and java chips.

Starbucks is additionally offering a promo on the drink: grande-size Franken Frappuccinos are $3.

Starbucks workers say the drink tastes like their minty Grasshopper Frappuccino, but this one doesn’t have any coffee in it (besides who wants coffee anyway?).

If you go on social media, most people are loving it.

But one thing is for sure, the Starbucks version isn’t healthy AT ALL…

It’s full of sugar, calories, and fat, oh my! S C A R Y!

So here’s a way to lighten up on the calories and fat as you make the Franken Frappuccino at home.

Copycat Starbucks Franken Frappuccino Green Tea Recipe

Green Tea Frappuccino Recipe

    (Green Tea Frappuccino)

  • 1 cup of ice (or desired amount)
  • 1 cup of whole milk (or desired alternative: 2% milk, unsweetened coconut milk, etc.)
  • 3 tbsp cane sugar (healthier alternative: 2-3 Tbs agave syrup, to taste)
  • 3 tsp Epic Matcha Japanese Culinary Grade Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Peppermint vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup of chocolate chips
  • Step 1.

Fill blender with your desired amount of ice. Start with the recommended amount, and then add more if you desire. But don’t go overboard – if you add too much ice, not only will you get a bit of brain freeze, the mix may not fit in your cup and will be a bit be harder for you to enjoy your frappuccino!

    Step 2.

Pour in the whole milk, or your desired alternative (we use unsweetened coconut milk). Starbucks uses whole milk in their recipe.

    Step 3.

Add the cane sugar. You can also use sugar alternatives (we use agave), but it may ultimately affect the taste.

    Step 4.

Add the Epic Matcha Japanese Culinary Grade Powder. A common misconception about the green tea frappuccino is that it uses brewed green tea – not so. Matcha green tea provides more health benefits than your average brewed green tea, and it doesn’t contain any extra chemicals and additives.

    Step 5.

Add the peppermint extract. Starbucks uses peppermint syrup in their recipe, but peppermint extract achieves the same sweet taste without the extra calories and sugar.

    Step 6.

Add the chocolate chips. Starbucks uses java chips, which are difficult to find, so this is very close to the original taste.

    Step 7.

Add 2 ounces of copycat mocha sauce. To make the mocha sauce, in a small saucepan, whisk together:

1/2 cup brewed coffee or espresso (or water if you don’t want a mocha version)
    1/4 cup cocoa powder
    1/4 cup sugar
    1/8 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Whisk to combine. Heat until the cocoa and sugar are thoroughly dissolved and the mixture starts to thicken. Remove from heat and pour into a storage container. Refrigerate until you’re ready to use it.

This batch makes enough for 3 drinks (6 oz of sauce and you only need ~2oz for each drink)

    Step 8.

Mix everything in a blender for 30 to 45 seconds, or until you do not hear ice being chipped any more.

    Step 9.

    Pour into your favorite cup.

    Step 10.

If desired, top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Enjoy!

As with any matcha drink, take some time for yourself and savor your creation. Matcha can play an integral part of your daily ritual, and can help you unwind during stressful moments. If you’re craving a warmer drink for the winter season, try our matcha latte recipe.

    Better Frappuccinos than Starbucks!

Makes better green tea frappuccinos than starbucks. The powder is fine, and green in color. This matcha does not have a “hay” smell. It does seem that it requires a little bit more (2 teaspoons) in a frappuccino, but that may be because it’s more refined. This works way better than coffee in keeping you awake and last way longer with no crash at the end. The first time we made one at 5 pm…bad idea, was wondering why I was wide awake at 2 AM. The taste is very pleasant and we found that it combines with regular milk WAY better than coconut almond milk. Regular milk + sugar gets the frappuccino very smooth and sweet but not too sweet. The coconut almond milk resulted in some taste clashes. I received this product at a discount for my honest and unbiased review.

I really like Matcha powder, however, ones I have bought in the past have been too bitter. I really enjoy this Epic Matcha Green Tea powder as it is not too strong and blends very nicely with some ice and almond milk. So far I have made a green tea frappacino which was delicious, as well as an iced green tea latte. Very happy with the taste! I received this item at a discounted price for my unbiased & honest opinion.

I’m in love with green tea Starbucks Frapucino, however I can’t treat myself often. I was looking for Matcha Green tea to make it by myself, until I found this product so I decided to give it a chance!!!!!!! I’ll never regret this purchase, it’s amazing. Now I’m able to make any type of green tea drink by myself and save my money!!!!!!! the only issue i faced, it’s the dose. the instruction says to use a 1/2 teaspoon in 8 ounces of cold or hot water, I put more almost 1teaspoon……. I got a very strong smell and taste. I didn’t realize but when I read the instruction I figure it out?. so now I’m following the measurement in order to get a very tasty n healthy green tea Frapuccino without spending that much money every time at Starbucks. I appreciate the seller of the organic Metcha green tea. I’m thankful that I received this product for discounted price in exchange for my honest review. For sure, I’ll be a customer thanks again!!!!!!

    Impressed with the Company.

I don’t recall who initially pointed me to this product, but it was a health food guru (I follow many of them). I used to drink the Starbucks matcha green tea Frappucino and had been trying to re-create it at home. This is a much healthier option. The company is certainly one I am proud to support: they sent me a *thank you note* with my first order. That impressed me so much. I like to drink the tea powder in smoothies and as an afternoon pick-me-up. It isn’t at all sweet, so you do need to add Stevia or honey to whatever you make. I like that they included recipes. I will be buying the product again. Can’t hurt and certainly may help — and it supports a small business!

First of all I am in the process of losing pregnancy pounds and I do protein shakes daily. Adding this to my shakes has given me that extra boost I need when I was feeling to tired to get to the gym. It gives me the satisfying experience of a green tea frappucino in a healthy way 🙂 I mix it with vega 1 vanilla protein powder in a blender with ice and water mmmmmm! It gives me good even energy unlike coffee which makes me jittery. Highly recommend this for all you green tea lovers out there!

The Green Tea Powder is very good, although I never tasted any other brand to compare it to. I am very satisfied with the taste and will continue to purchase Epic Matcha Green Tea Powder. 12/18/15 This is the third time I have ordered Epic Matcha Green Tea. I was going to try a different brand, but this is so good I am going to stay with it. I only use it to make Green Tea Frap and I like it better than Starbucks.
